Late summer is shaping up to be a packed one for Call of Duty players. Activision says Call of Duty: NEXT lands on August 21, 2026, with fresh gameplay, a proper Multiplayer rundown, and comments from the Infinity Ward team. Pre-order players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S can jump into the Early Access Beta straight afterwards, running until August 25. If you're looking to get familiar with the new systems before the wider crowd arrives, MW4 Bot Lobbies may also appeal to players who want more controlled matches while testing builds and movement.
Beta dates and platform access
The wider Open Beta begins on August 28 and stays live through September 1. That's also when Switch 2 players can get involved, which is a pretty big deal after Call of Duty's long break from Nintendo hardware. Switch 2 pre-orders open on August 26, just ahead of the test. The rollout is simple enough, but the early window could matter if you want to learn maps before everybody else piles in.

A mode that won't sit still
Modern Warfare 4's standout Multiplayer addition is Kill Block, set inside the Westbridge training complex. Rather than handing players one fixed arena, the mode shifts sections between rounds using a rail-driven modular system. There are two outer sections and a central block, so lanes, cover, and long sightlines can look very different from one match to the next. At launch, it supports 3v3 Gunfight and a new 10v10 version, with more than 500 potential layouts. Some sections can trigger rain or snow, too. That means frost and water can build up on weapons while you're playing, which sounds cosmetic at first, but it should make each round feel less rehearsed.
- More than 500 possible Kill Block layouts.
- 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight support at launch.
- Changing weather effects in selected Westbridge modules.
Loadouts, rewards, and the Dreadnought
Gunny is being pitched as a quick build helper, not an AI chatbot. It uses your unlocked attachments to suggest close-, mid-, or long-range setups, so you're not stuck digging through menus between matches. Infinity Ward has also dropped random bullet deviation, aiming for cleaner and more dependable gunfights. Vault Edition owners get the Rival Coalition and Special Forces Operator Packs, BlackCell for Season 1, weapon content, and a DMZ bonus. Digital pre-orders add Moonlit Pearl camo plus a Gilded Ruin challenge, with serial-numbered rewards for the first 100,000 finishers. The Aston Martin Dreadnought Tactical SUV arrives in DMZ and Warzone after the October 23 launch; players planning to buy Bot Lobbies MW4 can use quieter matches to test its routes and handling before chasing it in live games.
